Supervisory air is mandated by NFPA 14 (2024) section 8.3.2.1.1 which states, “All dry standpipe system piping shall be supervised with supervisory air.” This standard is to ensure that issues with pipe integrity can be detected and addressed before the system is put into use by the fire department.
Dryers and heaters are not required by NFPA standards. However specific localities, such as New York City, may require them, so be sure to check your local building code before deciding on what optional components you need for your Standguard system.
