In November of 2015 we received the following question from a customer:

We are replacing an air maintenance device on a Grinnell F302 dry valve, can we replace the existing device with a General air maintenance device or must we use a listed Grinnell device? Is it OK to use the General device on any system, as long as it meets the requirement of the valve manufacture?

In answer to your question, yes you can replace an existing AMD with our or any brand of air maintenance device. The performance of an air maintenance device is in no way tied to the brand or type of dry pipe valve on the sprinkler system – nor is it tied to the brand or type of air compressor used to pressurize the system. The only requirement for air maintenance devices that are used in a fire sprinkler applications is that they must be UL Listed and FM Approved.
